Fellowship staff visited Nazareth for a special Flags of Fellowship event at one of the local churches last week. During the visit, The Fellowship also provided two new bomb shelters and 25 specialized rescue kits to the municipality. The aid was funded through two different grants approved last year—one for the purchase of 27 bomb shelters and another for 390 rescue kits to be distributed across the Holy Land.
One of the bomb shelters was placed in the town square near the Basilica Church, a central and heavily visited location in Nazareth. The second shelter was placed on HaGalil Street, which is home to the Hotel Plaza Nof HaGalil, one of the city’s largest hotels. These shelters give not only residents a place to seek protection during an emergency, but also travelers and pilgrims. Nazareth currently has only nine bomb shelters, but officials say the goal is to have 30 by the end of the year.
Afterward, the Nazareth Municipality’s SA’AR Unit, which consists of first responders, received 25 rescue kits. These kits are packed with rescue gear, protective equipment, medical supplies, lighting, and tools for documentation and scene management. A special feature of each kit is an NFC chip containing encrypted data that can be accessed through short-range wireless communication to assist with disaster response.
Municipality CEO Nahda Mansour said, “We are approaching Christmas, and in a way, this serves as a symbolic holiday gift to Nazareth—a gesture showing that the city, the church, and the ‘City of the Annunciation’ matter to you. Through you at The Fellowship, we find ambassadors of peace.”
