All across Israel, families with children rush to bomb shelters with only minutes of warning, and often must remain there for long hours during Iranian attacks.
For northern Israel communities under the threat of Hezbollah rockets, the situation is even more dire. Living close to the border with Lebanon, residents often have less than a minute to get to safety and may have to remain in shelters for days. For many elderly, families, and children, the shelter has become their home away from home.
This is the case for families of Kiryat Shmona and Ma’ale Yosef, who receive only 15 seconds of warning whenever a Hezbollah-launched rocket is heading their way. It’s far too dangerous to leave the shelters, so their families end up moving in entirely.
The Fellowship is taking steps to make the kids who must endure this situation more comfortable by sending out 100 activity kits for bomb shelters in these communities. These kits include board games, coloring books, and other activities to help them stay occupied.
Fellowship staff visited some of the shelters this week and met with families and their children using the kits. They even played cards with them. The children said that they are happy to have something to do and are much more comfortable while they shelter during this uncertain time.
“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him” (Psalm 127:3).
