Mobile bomb shelters have protected and saved thousands of Israelis from rocket and missile fire before and since October 7, 2023, and continue to play a pivotal role in doing so. Since its founding, The Fellowship and its generous donors have placed over 3,100 bomb shelters in places like bus stops, industrial areas, and even playgrounds.
Since October 7, there is a need for a new kind of bomb shelter. In addition to a stronger shelter, The Fellowship has made an effort to make shelters more visually welcoming for Israeli children and make them feel safe.
There’s no greater symbol for home than a house. The new mobile bomb shelters for playgrounds are specially shaped like a quaint house, complete with a roof and ladder that can be used as a play space, as well as spiral slide.
Having a playground-themed bomb shelter for children is not the normalization of war, but a testament to the right that every child has to be able to play and develop. This is especially important to Israel as the younger generation experiences these traumatic times in their own way. By combining play with resilience and safety, our aim is that Israeli children can grow up with lessened trauma and not feeling as helpless.
“Thanks to The Fellowship for providing the playground shelter,” said Noam, an eight-year-old resident of Sderot.
