In a major operation, the IDF carried out strikes in Doha, Qatar aimed at taking out Hamas leadership in the area that had a hand in planning and carrying out the October 7 massacre. The Jerusalem Post reports that Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya was one of the targets. Whether or not he was killed in the strikes has not been confirmed.
Israeli officials said that the United States was notified of the strike and gave its approval. The U.S. Embassy in Doha issued a shelter-in-place order for US citizens in the area. This operation was also unique, with the IAF carrying out the strikes as opposed to the Mossad.
According to the military and the Shin Bet, special measures were taken to avoid harming anyone other than the top Hamas leaders, based on precise intelligence and munitions. The Post learned that the order to carry out this operation was only given days ago.
They said in an official statement that the IAF and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) conducted a precise strike targeting the senior leadership of the Hamas terrorist organization.
“For years, these members of the Hamas leadership have led the terrorist organization’s operations, are directly responsible for the brutal October 7th massacre, and have been orchestrating and managing the war against the State of Israel,” the statement read.
This also comes after Hamas claimed responsibility for a terror attack in Jerusalem in this week which killed six people and left more than 20 wounded. The terror group has also said that their leaders were in Doha to discuss a ceasefire deal, something that Israeli leadership has called a deception.
