Dimona is a city in southern Israel known for its nuclear facility, which has made it a target for Iran during the war. Residents, including the vulnerable and elderly, have been displaced from their homes that were hit by strikes from the regime. The Fellowship has helped set up an elderly center in Dimona so that they have a place to stay.
Our President and Global CEO Yael Eckstein said, “They need a place to go immediately. So, The Fellowship helped the municipality transform this elderly day center basically into apartments. There are over two dozen elderly who are living here now until their homes are repaired.”
The day center includes beds and on-site care for displaced elderly in Dimona. The Fellowship’s involvement doesn’t start after they arrive but moments after an attack. Our first responder partners are at the scene minutes after to rescue them. Previously donated vans by The Fellowship are used as shuttles to bring them right to the day center, a safe space with a comfortable place to sleep.
“This is a center that it is so sad that we even need. But what’s crazy is that when I come here, no one’s sad. They’re happy. They’re grateful,” said Yael. “This is the message of The Fellowship: ‘We are with you. We will never forsake you.’ This is ground zero for the warzone, but it doesn’t feel like that because there’s so much love.”
“Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come” (Psalm 71:18)
