Episode Notes:
Today’s podcast looks at Genesis 24:67:
“Isaac brought her into the tent of his mother Sarah, and he married Rebekah. So she became his wife, and he loved her; and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.”
The Bible tells us that Isaac married Rebekah—and that he loved her. But it also adds that Isaac’s relationship with Rebekah provided him comfort after the death of his mother, Sarah. According to Jewish tradition, Isaac was comforted by more than just the loving relationship he had with his wife. He was comforted because of the sacred space his home had become—thanks to the miracles with which God had blessed the homes of his mother, Sarah, and his wife, Rebekah. The miracles reflected the personal holiness and character of these two Matriarchs.
For centuries and still today, Jewish homes have incorporated three ritual objects that are inspired by the miracles in the homes of Sarah and Rebekah and which help elevate their homes spiritually. Yael explores each of these objects on today’s episode and discusses how each brings goodness and godliness into the home.
As Yael explains, the more we can make our home a place of God, the more we will experience God’s presence in our lives. Let’s all be inspired to enhance our homes spiritually, making them places where God dwells and where His presence is felt.
