Our President and Global CEO Yael Eckstein sits down with The Washington Times to talk about northern Israel’s recovery efforts amid the ongoing Hezbollah threat and why it matters so much to stand against the terror group:
When we talk about northern Israel and southern Israel being evacuated and needing to move to central Israel, that is significant. It’s not like taking the entire country of America or any of these huge countries and moving some of the people –which anyways, however you cut it, internally displaced people is a tragedy, losing their homes and needing to move.
And so right now, northern Israel and southern Israel is in the process of being rebuilt. It was completely destroyed by Hezbollah (in northern Israel). It’s not just about rebuilding it; it’s about making sure that we can send the people back to their homes and open up the schools and make sure they’re safe because Hezbollah terrorists were literally less than half a mile away from the border of Israel, from the towns of Metula and Kiryat Shmona. Towns where even The Fellowship’s soup kitchens were hit by rockets. And, we can’t allow our children to go to school half a mile from where terrorists are roaming.
So, there really are both security, political, strategic decisions that need to be made now. And it’s difficult, I have to say it’s difficult. The amount in needs that The Fellowship is seeing is unprecedented.
