‘You Are Special’

A 13-year-old Jewish girl in Romania when WWII began, 93-year-old Corina still recalls things most of us could never imagine.

“We were not able to be in our house. We were very frightened. We couldn’t get out of Romania.”

The bombing of Bucharest added to the dangers facing so many Jews like Corina, killing thousands and leaving thousands more homeless. Not only did Corina and her family have to fear the Nazis, intent on deporting and murdering them for their faith, but they did so without a place to call home.

After the war, Corina at last found a home – leaving Romania and making aliyah (immigrating) to Israel.

“We came here to Israel and we had to start from the beginning,” Corina says. She worked as a cleaning woman and her husband worked in a fabric factory. It was hard work, but they “were very happy that we were here and we were free and could talk with people.”

But now Corina’s husband has died, leaving this sweet elderly Holocaust survivor all alone. But Corina gives thanks to God, knowing that she not only has Fellowship friends who help provide food, medicine, and home visits, but she has a home at last – in the Holy Land of Israel.

“You are special,” Corina says, “I say it again, thank you very much to all of you.”

And it is for special friends like you – faithful friends of God’s children – that each year we feel privileged to take your prayer requests to the holiest spot in this Holy Land Corina calls home.
