Valentina is one of the 16,000 elderly Israelis who benefit from The Fellowship’s With Dignity and Fellowship program, which provides them with lifesaving food and medicine. Valentina remembers her time as a cook at a senior facility and how much residents loved her meals.
However, recent events have added stress to her life. The war with Iran frightened her, but having a secure room across the hall and supportive neighbors helped her cope. “You know, I’m living through two wars right now,” she says. Her son and grandson are in Ukraine, so she worries about them as well as about events in Israel.
Financially, life has become more difficult. “I’ve noticed how expensive medications have become. Food prices don’t hit me as hard because I live alone, but of course, I see them rising constantly.
“What helps me manage is the support of The Fellowship. Thanks to this support I can afford fish, chicken, and eggs, which are so important for my health. I’ve been through three spinal surgeries, and keeping a certain diet is vital. I’m very grateful. I know the people who donate are not rich themselves, and that makes their effort even more precious.”
