The Fellowship’s With Dignity and Fellowship program serves about 16,000 elderly Jews in need across Israel. Many of these seniors live in poverty and have little or no family support. For them, assistance with food is not just important – it’s life-changing. But just as important is the companionship and social connection The Fellowship provides. It reminds them that they are deeply valued and honored as cherished members of society.
Esther’s early life was filled with challenges—from a fearful childhood in Iraq to navigating life in Israel as a single mother. Now, in her later years, Esther is surrounded by a large and loving family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren visit often, especially during the High Holy Days. She regularly participates in synagogue life, attending morning and evening services. Her faith has been a steadfast source of strength and optimism. Her simple affirmation, “Everything is good,” reflects a heart that chooses gratitude despite hardship and loss.
“I want to thank them. They are doing a truly great mitzvah. It helps so much. With the 300 shekels I receive each month, I can buy quality food which I otherwise couldn’t afford,” Esther said.
