‘I Have Food on the Table’

Life changed dramatically for Leonid when he was just four years old, and World War II began where he was living in Belarus, in the former Soviet Union.
At the beginning of the war in 1941, his father was killed in battle, and his mother passed away suddenly. Leonid and his older brother fled to Uzbekistan, where they stayed in an orphanage during the war. After the war, he joined a military boarding school and built a military career. He was discharged from the army at the age of 55 and retired.
After all this, he made aliyah (immigrated to Israel) to live in his biblical homeland. But because of the war in Ukraine, he stopped receiving his military pension and now struggles financially.
Thankfully, he can rely on The Fellowship, which is more important now because of the war on Israel. “The cost of medicine has risen significantly, and food prices have also gone up. Thanks to the support from The Fellowship and Yad B’Yad, I manage to survive and get by,” says Leonid.
“I’m not afraid of war; what scares me is hunger, as I suffered from it when I was a child. Thanks to the assistance I receive from The Fellowship, I worry less and have food on the table.”
