At 86, Sofia has lived through more than most. A Holocaust survivor and widow, she fled Nazi forces as a toddler, surviving wartime evacuation in northern Russia, and later making aliyah (immigrating to Israel) from the former Soviet Union. Today, she lives in Sderot – just miles from Gaza – where the threat of rocket fire is a constant reality.

Despite her hardships, Sofia’s spirit remains unshaken. “I am proud to be Jewish,” she says. “Even under Soviet rule, I never hid my identity.”

Thanks to the generosity of Fellowship supporters, Sofia received a holiday food box last Passover, delivered personally by Fellowship staff and a wounded IDF soldier, Daniel. “I want to thank all the Christians around the world who support me,” she said. “Because of you, I have what I need.” And she receives ongoing food deliveries as a part of our With Dignity and Fellowship program.

After surviving war, illness, and displacement – both during World War II and October 7, 2023 – Sofia’s greatest wish is simple: peace. “I am tired of war. I want a peaceful life.”

Your support brings dignity, comfort, and hope to Sofia – and thousands like her in Israel and around the world.
