Faith Is Stronger Than Fear

Maria is a Holocaust survivor who lives just a few meters from the police station in Sderot, which Hamas terrorists tried to take over and completely destroyed on October 7, 2023. Maria is also a neighbor and good friend of another Fellowship beneficiary – Galina, whose daughter Zinaida was murdered by Hamas terrorists on that dark day. “I was afraid staying all alone at my apartment and went up to my neighbor, Galina,” remembers Maria. “Together, we hid in her house, praying for safety.”
Maria evacuated her home after the brutal attacks but returned to Sderot six months later. But the memories of that dark day still haunt her. So she keeps the Book of Psalms next to her bed to remind her that faith is stronger than fear and it fills her with a sense of peace.
She’s also comforted by visits from The Fellowship. Recently, we visited her with food for Passover. She was happy to greet volunteer Daniel (a soldier wounded in Gaza during the current war) who brought her the holiday food box filled with Passover essentials like matzah.
As Maria tells us, “I am so grateful for the warm attitude and the assistance I receive. It’s especially important in my old age.”
