Back-and-forth strikes between the U.S. and Iran continued over the weekend. Two U.S. servicemembers were killed in Jordan after an Iranian attack on their military base, while another was reported missing. The Times of Israel also confirmed a fourth U.S. military death at a base in Iraq as the conflict over the Strait of Hormuz entered its ninth day. Meanwhile, Israel continues to prepare for the possibility of renewed Iranian attacks, with the IDF maintaining its own list of potential targets.
On Saturday, Kuwait came under sustained attack, with the armed forces saying they had intercepted Iranian ballistic missiles and drones, and that a number of firefighters and oil sector workers had been injured while responding to the attacks.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had struck a US military support center at Kuwait’s Camp Arifjan and destroyed a radar facility at Ali Al Salem Air Base. Kuwait Petroleum Corporation later said one of its oil facilities had been hit in “repeated Iranian attacks,” causing significant damage and some injuries, according to the state news agency.
As well as hitting Kuwait, the IRGC targeted a site in Bahrain where US combat aircraft were gathered at Sheikh Isa Air Base and an intelligence data center, Iranian media said.
Over the past three days, Iranian strikes have also been reported in Bahrain, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia—the first reported attack in Saudi Arabia in three months. Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi said the regime’s continued aggression against neighboring nations constitutes war crimes.
U.S. airstrikes have continued to target Iranian surveillance and weapons sites, while expanding to include infrastructure such as bridges and road tunnels to prevent those facilities from being resupplied. With the newly reported casualties, approximately 16 U.S. servicemembers have been killed since the conflict with Iran began in February, while hundreds more have reportedly been injured.
