Kiryat Gat is home to an Intel Corporation manufacturing plant that specializes in computer and electronic components. Earlier today, eight teams from Israel Fire and Rescue Services responded to reports of black smoke and an explosion at the factory.

The Jerusalem Post reports that three people were seriously injured in the blast. United Hatzalah teams treated the victims, identified as three men approximately 25, 30, and 45 years old. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued an official statement wishing them a speedy recovery and praising the emergency responders.

Israel’s Fire and Rescue Authority initially warned that hazardous chemicals may have leaked following the explosion. Firefighters worked to identify the source of the chemicals and extinguish the ensuing fire, which has since been put out.

The Fire and Rescue Authority said the incident involved nitrogen trifluoride (NF3), a non-flammable gas with oxidizing properties.

The local municipality has instructed residents to stay away from the area as emergency services continue to operate at the scene.

Intel’s Kiryat Gat factory, also known as FAB 28, manufactures semiconductor chips used in the company’s processors. The facility is one of Intel’s key manufacturing sites in Israel and plays a role in the company’s global semiconductor production operations.

United Hatzalah Deputy Head Yanaki Weinberg and paramedic Moshe Winfeld said they treated the oldest victim, who suffered burns across his body. His heart had stopped beating, requiring emergency resuscitation with a defibrillator. Thankfully, his heartbeat was restored after two electric shocks. He is currently receiving further treatment at Soroka Medical Center.

The 30-year-old man also required resuscitation due to the severity of his burns. The third and youngest victim was treated at the scene before being evacuated for further medical care. All three men remain in serious condition. Authorities are investigating a possible hazardous material leak.

The Fellowship and our supporters pray for the recovery of the three men injured in this tragic accident. We also pray for the emergency responders and authorities as they work to bring the situation under control and ensure the safety of everyone in the area.
