Ynet released its annual list of Israel’s biggest scientific, business, and technological innovations of 2026. These range from a specialized vest for astronauts that reduces radiation exposure by 60% on missions to the moon and Mars to the latest defense technologies, such as the laser-based Iron Beam and weapons that can navigate without GPS. New methods of testing for cancer and other conditions have also been developed, along with advancements in green energy technologies.
Major breakthroughs in cancer detection and treatment include Alpha DaRT’s method of targeting tumors by delivering alpha radiation directly to them, Biolojic’s engineering of a cancer-fighting antibody, and NovoCure’s use of electric fields to treat pancreatic cancer. Other medical breakthroughs include MeMed’s 15-minute blood test that distinguishes between bacterial and viral infections and Innovalve’s heart valve, which can be implanted without opening the chest.
In the clean energy and recycling sector, Keter has focused on reusing plastic, finding ways for recycled plastic to mimic wood, stone, and other materials used in interior design. Plastic can now be recycled for flooring and walls in indoor and outdoor living spaces. Meanwhile, Remilk has developed a fermentation process to produce protein identical to milk protein without cows or farms. The startup CarbonBlue has successfully used water to capture carbon, allowing the water to absorb more carbon dioxide from the air. At the same time, H2Pro has raised more than $100 million to reinvent water electrolysis—the process of using electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen—on a much larger scale. Aleph Farms is eyeing a 2027 launch for its lab-grown steak made from cattle cells.
Lastly, the IDF is always looking for ways to increase Israel’s security and bolster its defensive capabilities. Along with the aforementioned Iron Beam, the Trophy system was developed to protect tanks and other armored vehicles. The system detects and intercepts incoming anti-tank projectiles before they can strike. BlueWhale has also developed a crewless submarine that can spend weeks at sea gathering intelligence and detecting underwater mines.
