On Friday, Jerusalem condemned attacks in Ukraine amid the ongoing war that killed a 14-year-old Israeli boy and injured 20 others, including his mother. JNS reports that Kyiv was targeted in the latest wave of drone attacks. Chief Rabbi Moshe Reuven Azman said the boy, his mother, and other Israelis were in a residential building near the Israeli Embassy. The boy was identified as Daniel Omansky. At least seven people, including Omansky and another child, were killed in the attacks.
“A horrific Russian drone attack on a residential building in Kyiv! A 14-year-old boy from Israel was killed … many were injured. … I’m at the site of the attack—I’m praying for the recovery of the injured,” Azman tweeted.
In the recording, he called the attack a “war crime” that targets all nationalities, including Ukrainians, Russians and Jews.
The report quoted Israel’s Foreign Ministry as saying in a separate statement, “Israel’s consul in Kyiv and the Israelis in Distress Abroad Department in the Consular Affairs Division have been handling the case since receiving the report, maintaining continuous contact with his family and providing it with all necessary assistance during this difficult time.”
The drone hit the building between the 10th and 11th floors, outlet Kyiv Independent cited the police as saying.
Over the weekend, the city of Odesa was also targeted in a mass strike that killed 14 people and injured 57. A residential building, medical facility, hotel, shop, and grain storage facility were among the sites hit. Ukrainian air defense systems were able to shoot down or intercept 147 drones. President Volodymyr Zelensky said that eight cities were attacked yesterday.
In Israel, the IDF once again struck Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon after an explosive drone was launched at troops. Fortunately, no one was injured or killed. Saturday’s strikes targeted a weapons storage facility. The military said it will continue to operate to remove immediate threats.
