U.S. satellite images show that Iran is working to reconstruct a nuclear facility southeast of Tehran, with construction equipment and vehicles seen at the site. The Times of Israel reports that the facility was first struck by Israel in October 2024 in retaliation for Iranian missile attacks. Intelligence reports also indicate that the regime began restoring the facility as early as the initial strikes two years ago.
The IDF has said that in recent years, Iran used the site for “the development of advanced explosives and for conducting sensitive experiments as part of the AMAD Project,” Iran’s alleged secret nuclear weapons development program between the late 1990s and 2003.
Western intelligence has suggested Tehran carried out tests relevant to nuclear bomb detonations at Taleghan 2 more than two decades ago.
In its latest report, the institute said Vantor Technologies satellite imagery from September 13 shows that “Iran has erected a tarp above the destroyed hardened buried facility, hiding the reconstruction activity that is occurring underneath from satellite view or aerial reconnaissance.”
“Significant activity can be seen throughout the construction site. Construction vehicles, including dump trucks, bulldozers, concrete pump trucks and concrete mixers, and cranes, are actively working to rebuild the facility,” the report said.
Nuclear watchdogs have been unable to verify the status of Iran’s highly enriched uranium since the 12-day war in June 2025. It is believed that Iran may have moved the material underground. The International Atomic Energy Agency has also reported construction activity at Iran’s Pickaxe Mountain, which U.S. intelligence has identified as a possible nuclear material storage site.
U.S. President Donald Trump said today that he will soon make a decision on whether to resume strikes on Iran as he prepares to meet with leaders from Gulf nations next week. Iran has expanded its attacks on countries such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait. The future of the conflict is expected to be the central focus of the meetings as efforts continue to bring the fighting to an end.
