The IDF, specifically the Kfir Brigade, has been operating east of the Yellow Line in Gaza to dismantle Hamas infrastructure that violates the ceasefire and the ensuing peace plan. Ynet reports that Israeli forces discovered a tunnel route measuring a little over half a mile long that contained weapons.
During the operation, the forces worked alongside the Yahalom Unit to locate and dismantle an underground tunnel route approximately one kilometer long. The tunnel contained weapons and three hideouts used by terrorists from the Hamas terrorist organization, according to the IDF.
IDF forces under the Southern Command remain deployed in the area in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and will continue operating to remove any immediate threat, the military said.
The IDF also posted videos from inside the tunnels prior to their dismantling, showing the dark, winding corridors the hostages were kept in with locations only identifiable through numbered doors and sparse signage. The only light that can be seen is from the soldiers’ flashlights as they walked through them.
Counterterrorism operations like this have continued since the ceasefire in October. As the United States, Israel, and the Board of Peace look to move Gaza into phase two of the postwar plan, efforts are still underway to neutralize terrorist infrastructure and to return Ran Gvili.
