As Israel’s war against Hamas terror nears the two-year mark, the IDF’s latest goal in Gaza is to complete the encirclement of Gaza City by closing the Netzarim corridor in the south. Ynet reports that this can be completed by Yom Kippur, which begins this evening at sundown. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the only way through northern and southern Gaza would be through IDF checkpoints. This is also a prerequisite to advance into Hamas strongholds.
Announcing the corridor’s closure, Katz warned: “This is the last opportunity for Gaza residents who wish to move south, leaving Hamas terrorists isolated inside Gaza City against the full force of the IDF. Whoever remains in Gaza will be considered a terrorist or terror supporter.”
Rockets fired at Israel’s Gaza border communities like Kfar Aza, Nir Am, Mefalsim, and Sa’ad were intercepted by the IDF as they secured the areas. Aid groups have also moved out of the area in order to better help the residents of Gaza and avoid the ongoing offensive to disarm and defeat Hamas.
