While launching a major offensive against Hamas in Gaza, the IDF also struck Hodeidah Port in Yemen, which the Houthi terror group was using as a main supply base. The Jerusalem Post reports that this was in response to Houthis launching missiles and rockets toward Israel. Yemen media also reports that 12 air strikes hit the port after civilians were warned to evacuate by the IDF.
The strikes come after a series of IDF attacks on Sanaa at the beginning of September, which targeted Houthi army camps, the headquarters of the Houthis’ propaganda department, and a fuel storage site that was used for the regime’s military activity.
This new campaign is a part of an operation that’s centered around stopping the recent Houthi attacks on the Ramon Airport in Eilat, which caused the temporary closing of the city’s airspace after a drone hit the airport.
The strike represented the longest flight made by an Israeli pilot since the beginning of the war, covering a total of 2,350 km to complete the mission.
No casualties from the 10-minute strike were reported, with the main aim being to take out Houthi infrastructure. Meanwhile, IDF Defense Minister Israel Katz said that the strike was also meant to ensure the continuation of the maritime and air blockades on the terrorist group in Yemen.
