The IDF completed strikes against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon overnight after Israeli troops were injured earlier this month in an attack involving an explosive-rigged drone. Ynet reports that the strikes came amid a continuing standoff at a strategic Hezbollah stronghold.
The overnight strikes followed IDF activity throughout Tuesday. Lebanese media have also reported Israeli strikes and operations in recent days near al-Dabsheh, Qantara and Srebbine.
The latest strikes come amid continuing tensions in southern Lebanon and a confrontation around the Ali Taher ridge, considered one of Hezbollah’s key strategic positions in the sector.
The IDF maintains operational control over large parts of the surrounding area and access routes to a fortified underground Hezbollah complex.
Israeli assessments say dozens of Hezbollah operatives may be trapped inside the complex, along with officers from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which has long provided Hezbollah with weapons, financing and training.
The IDF has refrained from eliminating the complex altogether, concerned that doing so could provoke an Iranian response and lead to broader escalation in the region. It has been reported that some Hezbollah terror operatives remain holed up in the stronghold.
The strikes carried out in retaliation for the explosive drone incident eliminated a battalion commander in Hezbollah’s Radwan Force and another in its Badr Unit. Both had been involved in efforts to launch drones at Israeli forces in the area.
The IDF further reported that operations in southern Lebanon over the last month uncovered thousands of terror sites. These included command centers, observation and staging positions, rocket launchers, underground facilities, and weapons.
The terror group’s backers in Iran have also openly threatened the sons of U.S. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This week, the regime publicly announced a $10 million bounty on Trump’s son Barron, while Netanyahu said that his son Yair was the target of an assassination plot last year.
