The Jerusalem Post reports that a Hamas-written letter to U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to be delivered from Qatar later this week. The letter states that the terror group responsible for October 7 is willing to release half of the remaining 48 hostages being held in Gaza in exchange for a 60-day ceasefire.
The letter containing the proposal has not yet been sent to Trump but was also reported by Fox News’s Chief Foreign Correspondent, Trey Yingst.
The letter reportedly states that as long as negotiations for a permanent end the war continue, the ceasefire will continue.
Yingst reported on the letter citing a senior Trump administration official and a second source directly involved in the negotiations.
Hamas’ request comes a week after Israel began a major offensive in Gaza City to disarm the terror group and rescue the hostages. In the past, the U.S. has pressed Hamas on releasing all the remaining hostages. Israel – understandably – has long been skeptical of Hamas’ ceasefire proposals, seeing them as an opportunity for the group to rearm.
