Dudu Fisher – Singer and Friend of The Fellowship
Stand for Israel | July 10, 2023
Born in 1951 in Petah Tikva, Israel, Dudu Fisher grew up in the Holy Land, the son of a Holocaust survivor. After three years of service in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF)—including during the Yom Kippur War—he studied to become a cantor. He held the cantorial position at Tel Aviv’s Great Synagogue, and also served as cantor in both South Africa and the United States.
Despite having no prior acting experience, Fisher played the leading role of Jean Valjean in the Israeli production of Les Misérables from 1987 to 1990. He again played the role on Broadway in 1993 and 1994, and later reprised it in London, where he performed for Queen Elizabeth.
A one-man Off-Broadway show, Never on Friday, starred Dudu Fisher and detailed the difficulties of performing on Broadway for an observant Jew. He has also played for presidents, performed with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and headlined his own show, Jerusalem, in Branson, Missouri.
Dudu Fisher’s singing and charisma continues to charm millions of music fans around the world, and his friendship—seen in the video above singing in the Holy Land with our beloved founder, Rabbi Eckstein z”l—continues to be a blessing to The Fellowship.
