This past weekend, northern Israel saw a spike in Hezbollah drone attacks – both near and across the border. At least four people were wounded with some rushed to hospitals with serious injuries. Two IDF soldiers were also reported to have been killed as their units were targeted by the terror group. Last Sunday, Fellowship staff arrived and placed 10 mobile bomb shelters in some of the most vulnerable communities.

Six of these shelters were placed in Kiryat Shmona and three were placed in the town of Metula. Both communities sit near or on the border with Lebanon. Two of the Kiryat Shmona shelters were placed near schools to provide protection for parents picking up and dropping off their children. The 10th shelter was placed at Kibbutz Hagoshrim in the Upper Galilee.

Our President and Global CEO Yael Eckstein said, “The situation for residents of northern Israel is extremely difficult and dangerous, with lives under threat every day and night. These 10 new bomb shelters, strategically placed in communities under continual fire, will help save lives, especially in the face of drone attacks, where every second can make all the difference.”

On Saturday evening, a shopping center in Kiryat Shmona was hit by Hezbollah rocket strikes. One moment families were shopping, the next was filled with sirens, panic, and races to shelters. Fortunately, no deaths were reported. The addition of more shelters will mean that people will not have to run for their lives, praying they will make it to safety in time.

Kiryat Shmona General Director Oh Cohen sends his deepest thanks to The Fellowship staff who arrived on such short notice and the donors in the United States and around the world that made this emergency response possible.

Yael seconds his sentiment: “Our hearts and deepest gratitude go out to our hundreds of thousands of Christian friends and supporters around the world who stand with Israel and help protect its people. We remain committed to responding to the evolving needs of Israeli communities during these challenging times.”

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6).
