This past weekend, Fellowship staff attended the inauguration of the PET-CT Institute at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center. The institute was made possible through two matching grants provided last year by The Fellowship and the Koschitzky-Gitler family.

The PET-CT diagnostic imaging scanner was especially needed, as no such services were previously available in the area. Located 28 miles from both Tel Aviv and Haifa, Hillel Yaffe Medical Center serves patients who previously had to travel long distances to receive treatment.

“A PET-CT scan is a lifesaver,” said Hillel Yaffe Medical Center Director Prof. Mickey Dudkiewicz. “It is the flashlight that illuminates the disease. It allows for accurate diagnosis and determines the beginning of treatment. In an era where the number of patients is unfortunately rising every year, this institute is an existential necessity for the quality of care and is literally a lifesaver.”

CT scans are essential for diagnosing and monitoring different types of cancer. Hillel Yaffe Medical Center sees about 11,000 patients, some of whom are too sick to travel. Thanks to the matching grants, The Fellowship was able to secure one of the most advanced CT scanners available, ensuring that patients have access to world-class care.

Fellowship staff member Safwan said at the ceremony, “I would also like to thank our partners, the Gitler family, for their support of this project and many others undertaken by The Fellowship. We are equally grateful to all the additional donors who contributed to this initiative. I believe that this kind of collaboration is the only way to advance truly significant projects in our country. When I look around and see our partners and colleagues coming together time and again in different places and with different collaborators, I am reminded that these connections are what strengthen the resilience of the State of Israel.”

“My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body” (Proverbs 4:20-22).
