The new hospital beds and mobile imaging system that The Fellowship helped provide to Galilee Medical Center through a grant last year are now fully in use. The hospital — which Israel relies on during emergencies along the northern border — has described the assistance as a breakthrough that has transformed and strengthened its surgical care, making it much easier to save lives. This past week, Fellowship staff were able to see these enhancements in action.
“This is an enormous advantage,” said one of the doctors using the new CT scanner. “During surgery, we can now see exactly what is happening in real time — whether a bone is positioned correctly, whether an implant is accurate, and whether the repair is truly complete. Within two to three minutes, we know if everything is properly aligned.”
One of the main issues with the previous CT scanner was its lack of mobility and limited imaging capabilities. Problems were often discovered only after operations had been completed. In addition to being less cumbersome, the new mobile scanner features real-time 3D imaging, allowing for more precise and immediate results.
“It can prevent repeat surgeries, but more importantly, it improves outcomes. Before, I would send patients for a CT scan after surgery with real anxiety, knowing that if something wasn’t right, I might have to bring them back into the operating room. Now I see the problem immediately and fix it on the spot.”
The new machine also reduces radiation exposure, and its mobility allows it to be used in crowded operating rooms — especially during states of emergency. With faster decision-making and shorter procedures, a greater number of patients can be treated in succession.
“Since receiving these beds, it truly feels like a different world for us. Everything has become easier — positioning patients, transporting them, and working around them. The beds are electric, modern, and new, and they significantly improve the overall appearance of the department.”
The previous hospital beds could not be raised or adjusted and would often get stuck. Like the new CT machine, mobility is essential and can make all the difference. With The Fellowship’s help, Galilee Medical Center has been transformed — not only for its patients, but also for its staff.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).
