Project Spotlight: Help for IDF Reservists
The Fellowship | October 24, 2024
The Fellowship recently launched a program to help IDF reserve soldiers with basic needs and assistance. Through the program, we will provide reserve soldiers with some financial help through purchase cards, as many have left their families to fight in Israel’s war to protect the Holy Land.
“These gift cards are going to be given to our soldiers. This will give them a little bit of financial certainty, and for their families at home who are also suffering,” said one of the officers. “They are without their moms or dads at home so this will help them out. I think it will make the holiday a little bit better.”
Fellowship staff went to the Golan Heights, right on the border with Syria, where they met reservists and distributed purchase cards which provide special assistance. The Fellowship IDF Hospitality Vehicle also came to raise morale and bring cheer to the soldiers stationed there. At the end, they distributed purchase cards valued at 500 shekels (USD $133) to reservists who ran into financial difficulties as a result of the war.
Two of the soldiers made aliyah (immigrated to Israel) six years ago from India. These reservist soldiers are residents of northern Israel, and their families have been evacuated for over a year. These soldiers stated that they feel a great privilege to help protect the Land of Israel. When they were growing up in India, they dreamed of the day they would make aliyah to Israel, and they feel that there is no greater mitzvah (commandment) than this.
