Gush Halav, also known as Jish, is a small community in the Upper Galilee near Israel’s northern border. It is home to approximately 3,200 residents, most of whom are Christians.

The local council operates an elderly shelter and club located next to the church. The Fellowship funded much-needed renovations to the building, as well as the purchase of new furniture and appliances, improving the club’s accessibility and expanding its enrichment opportunities.

The elderly club serves as a vital support system for many of Gush Halav’s older residents, with approximately 100 members. The club operates four days a week, welcoming between 30 and 35 visitors each day. This week, Fellowship staff met with some members during the opening ceremony of the newly renovated facility. Representatives from the Gush Halav Local Council also attended the celebration.

Sharbel, an 82-year-old member said, “We are so happy to have a place we can go to. We, the seniors, will turn this club into a place filled with love. Thank you to The Fellowship for making a dream come true for senior citizens.”

Another member, 84-year-old Mona, says that the club lights up her life and has been a major support system when her husband passed away five years ago. She also sends her deepest thanks to The Fellowship donors who have made the improvement possible.

“Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?” (Job 12:12).
