The Meaning of Shalom

In Judaism, shalom, the familiar Hebrew word for “peace,” has a variety of meanings and usages. Shalom can mean hello — and goodbye. Essentially, we are wishing one another peace. This word figures prominently in greetings, prayers, and synagogue services.
