See the Miracles in Your Life

See the Miracles in Your Life - Yael Eckstein podcast graphic

When was the last time you witnessed one of God’s miracles?

The Red Sea isn’t parting in front of us like in Bible days and, if you listen to the news today, it can be difficult to see God’s hand at work in our world. But why do we assume miracles are ancient history that only happened during Bible times?

Yael Eckstein explains that while some of the miracles of the Bible happened in front of everyone, others were more hidden. But hidden miracles are no less wondrous than those that are plain to see. And, as people of faith, it’s up to us to see every miracle—from our hearts that beat, to our eyes that see. If we look closely, we’ll see that God’s miracles are all around us—listen now!

And listen to more of Yael’s teachings from the Bible on her daily podcast, The Chosen People.

Episode Notes:

Today’s podcast focuses on the Bible verses found in Numbers 21:13-18:

They set out from there and camped alongside the Arnon, which is in the wilderness extending into Amorite territory. The Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites. That is why the Book of the Wars of the Lord says:

“…Zahab in Suphah and the ravines, the Arnon and the slopes of the ravines that lead to the settlement of Ar and lie along the border of Moab.”

From there they continued on to Beer, the well where the Lord said to Moses, ‘Gather the people together and I will give them water.’

Then Israel sang this song:

“Spring up, O well! Sing about it, about the well that the princes dug, that the nobles of the people sank—the nobles with scepters and staffs.”

Then they went from the wilderness to Mattanah.

Yael turns to Jewish tradition to uncover the meaning of these verses. We learn that this Bible verse is actually referencing two miracles. One is more obvious: God’s parting of the Red Sea, which led to the defeat of the Egyptian army. But the second miracle is more hidden, and happened at the “rivers of the Arnon.”

At the rivers of the Arnon, as the Israelites approached the Promised Land, their enemies hid themselves in the crevices of the cliffs and rocks so they could ambush them. But God made a miracle and moved the two cliffs together, crushing Israel’s enemies and demolishing the Amorite army. The children of Israel had no idea that they had been in such grave danger. Only after the miracle happened did they see the blood of their enemies in the water.

Yael relates this back to her own experiences when she was unknowingly just minutes away from a terrorist attack but was miraculously protected by God’s hand. She also relates it to the miracles we see in the Holy Land each time terrorist rockets fall on evacuated buildings or hit the one area of the street where there were no people. In this powerful episode, we learn that the more we acknowledge God’s hidden miracles, the more we will receive them.
