The Damage Done

While the United Nations has long been known for its anti-Israel stances, perhaps if they witnessed the violence and destruction Israelis experience, they would change their minds. That is the hope, The Jerusalem Post reports, as Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon hosts a U.N. delegation in southern Israel so they can see for themselves just how damaging this weekend’s barrage of rockets was:

A delegation of UN Ambassadors visiting Israel, arrived in Ashkelon on Tuesday to survey the damage caused by the recent rocket attacks against Southern Israel.

The group of ambassadors, which was led by Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon,  made visits to several sites, including the home of Moshe Agadi, who was killed by a rocket that hit his home directly, and later visited the Arlozorov School that was also hit by a rocket.

Danon said “We arrived in Ashkelon to offer strength to the residents of the south and to show the world what Hamas aggression looks like. The time has come for the Security Council to designate Hamas as a terrorist organization, one that commits double war crimes and exploits the people of Gaza as human shields. This will be the next measure we bring to the UN…”

Over 700 rockets were fired towards Israel over the weekend, with the city of Ashkleon sustaining heavy damage. Ashkelon mayor Tomer Glam, said that “the city has suffered a severe blow from this latest escalation. This is a reality that is unacceptable and unlivable…”
