Photo Friday: Builders of the Wall
Stand for Israel | March 6, 2020
In the Book of Nehemiah, its author tells of how he went from being a Jewish governor under Persian rule to the one who rebuilt Jerusalem:
“You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem” (2:17).
In the next chapter, Nehemiah tells of the “Builders of the Wall” (3:1), including those who “rebuilt the Sheep Gate” (shown here in a historical photograph taken between 1890 and 1900), the Fish Gate, the Jeshanah Gate, the Valley Gate, the Dung Gate, and the Fountain Gate. Despite the destruction of the walls of the Holy City, God’s people rebuilt them during this time.
And once the walls had been rebuilt, Nehemiah tells us of “rejoicing because God had given them great joy…The sound of rejoicing in Jerusalem could be heard far away” (12:43).
To this day, those of us who stand for Israel continue to rejoice that God’s people have once again reclaimed and rebuilt their Holy Land. Shabbat shalom, friends.
