For those of us who stand for Israel, Hollywood looks to focusing on the Jewish state and its history. Shiryn Ghermezian of The Algeimer reports that Helen Mirren will portray Golda Meir, Israel’s first female prime minister, in a biopic set during the Yom Kippur War:

Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren will star as Israel’s only female prime minister Golda Meir in the new biopic “Golda,” it was announced on Tuesday.

The feature film will focus on the decisions made by Meir, while surrounded by the infighting from her all-male cabinet, during the 1973 Yom Kippur War — when Egypt, Syria, and Jordan launched a surprise attack on the Sinai Peninsula and the Golan Heights…

“Golda” will be directed by Israeli Oscar winner Guy Nattiv…the second Israeli ever to win an Academy Award with his short film Skin, said: “As someone who was born during the Yom Kippur War, I am honored to tell this fascinating story about the first and only woman to ever lead Israel. Nicholas Martin’s brilliant script dives into Golda’s final chapter as the country faces a deadly surprise attack during the holiest day of the year, a core of delusional generals undermining Golda’s judgment, all the while undergoing secret treatments for her illness. I could not be more excited to work with the legendary Miss Mirren to bring this epic, emotional and complex story to life.”
