Frieda is 94 and has trouble speaking, but when she talks about the Holocaust memories that still haunt her, one repeated phrase comes out clearly: “The blood, the blood!”
No one should have to endure what Frieda endured.
Tragically, today she endures another struggle. She lives in poverty so extreme it is difficult to fathom. Like many elderly Ukrainian Jews, Frieda often goes without food in order to buy the medicine she needs to survive.
She simply cannot afford both; she can barely afford enough food to stay alive.
The care provided by Fellowship supporters is one of the few bright spots in Frieda’s life. During a recent visit to Ukraine, we offered her not just food, but hugs and conversation. Laughter rang through her tiny, run-down home for the first time in years.
With the holy season of Passover approaching, we must do even more to sustain Frieda and so many others like her. Your gift to our Passover Outreach will provide food and hope to needy Jews in Israel and the former Soviet Union.
If you visit our website at IFCJ.org/PassoverBox, you can give a gift box filled with nutritious food and clothing vouchers, and we will deliver it to someone in dire need.
Our goal is to provide 100,000 Passover food boxes in the next month to help Jews like Frieda observe this sacred season with dignity. We’ll not only provide food to sustain them day-to-day, but also the special foods required to help them celebrate the Passover seder according to biblical tradition (Exodus 12:14-20).
Your blessing of food is also a blessing of faith!
