U.S. to Withdraw from UNESCO

The White House announced Thursday that the U.S. will withdraw from UNESCO, the United Nations’ cultural body, citing its anti-Israel bias. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was quick to react, calling the decision a “brave and moral choice.” Israel now plans to withdraw from the UN agency as well.

  • Iranian leaders are promising a “crushing response” if the U.S. fails to recertify the Iran nuclear deal this week. U.S. allies in Europe are urging President Trump to stay in the deal.
  • In Israel, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) shelled a Hamas outpost in the Gaza Strip as retaliation for a terrorist rocket launched toward Israel. The rocket failed to reach the border.
  • Israeli counter-intelligence efforts recently uncovered a Russian hacking operation aimed at top-secret American intelligence programs.
  • Three years after ISIS swept across Iraq, they finally were defeated by Iraqi forces in their last stronghold – the city of Hawija, 135 miles north of Bagdad.
