Trump Acts on Promise to Move US Embassy to Jerusalem

President Donald Trump this week announced that his administration is taking steps toward fulfilling a campaign promise to move the American embassy to Jerusalem. Israel recognizes Jerusalem as its capital, as do Palestinians. 86 countries maintain embassies in Tel Aviv, with none in Jerusalem.

Also this week in Israel in the News:

  • Prior to leaving office, former President Obama released more than $221 million in aid to the Palestinian Authority.
  • Earlier this week, an IDF tank shelled a Hamas outpost in retaliation for being fired upon along Israel’s border with Gaza.
  • The Fellowship has donated funds to renovate a public park in Haifa, which had been devastated by wildfires late last year. The fires caused an estimated $520 million in damage.
  • Friday, Jan. 27, is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the 72nd anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi death camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau. The day, established by the U.N. in 2005, honors the memory of the millions of victims of the Holocaust as well as Holocaust survivors.
