President Rivlin on Tu B’Shvat

As the Jewish people prepare to celebrate Tu B’Shvat, the New Year of the Trees, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin held a special seder meal with some of his nation’s farmers. Israel Hayom’s Yori Yalon reports on the holiday dinner, and that President Rivlin spoke of how agriculture is a fundamental Zionist value:

President Reuven Rivlin hosted a Tu B’Shevat Seder at his official residence in Jerusalem on Wednesday. Produce farmers from across Israel attended the meal, marking the Jewish arbor day, and presented Rivlin and his wife, Nechama, with a basket of locally grown exotic fruit.

Among the issues discussed during the evert was the plight of Israel’s agriculture industry, to which the farmers sought to draw the government’s attention.

Rivlin told the farmers that “agriculture is not just a business, but a value. It is a fundamental Zionist value that must not be abandoned…”
