Pence Visits Texas Community After 26 Killed in Church Shooting

Vice President Mike Pence and the Second Lady met with families of victims and survivors of the tragic shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, which left 26 worshipers dead. Fellowship Founder and President Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein called the attack “evil, unrivaled,” saying “Christians and Jews must stand together . . . against all violent extremists who aim to transport us to the darkest moments of our history where hatred knows no limit.”

Also this week in Israel in the News:

  • Iranians marked the anniversary of the 1979 U.S. embassy attack and subsequent hostage crisis this week with chants of “Death to America” and “Death to Israel” resounded through the streets.
  • In Lebanon, Prime Minister Saad Hariri resigned his post and fled the country, saying he feared for his life because of the growing influence of Hezbollah in the Lebanese government.
  • The Fellowship‘s “Van at Night” project helps Israel’s homeless youth population get back on their feet. Many of these youth are immigrants, some as young as 13, who cannot speak Hebrew fluently.
  • After Israel expressed support for Kurdish independence in Iraq’s northern region, the Iraqi government voted unanimously to ban the flying of Israel’s flag in public.
