New Elections Called as Netanyahu Fails to Form Coalition

For the first time in the nation’s history, Israeli leaders are calling for new elections as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed in his efforts to form a governing coalition. Elections will be held on September 17.

  • Also this week, the U.S. continues to pressure Iran, this time in response to an attack on U.S.-bound oil tankers earlier this month.
  • The Israel Defense Force (IDF) launched air strikes this week against Syria after an IDF fighter jet encountered anti-aircraft fire during a routine flight.
  • Fires in southern Israel last week, some caused by incendiary balloons launched from Gaza, completely destroyed a village of 250 people. In response, The Fellowship has partnered with families to raise $325,000 to help rebuild the town.
  • A rise in anti-Semitic attacks in Germany has led to calls for caution among its Jewish citizens.
  • A group of teenage boys from a Jewish yeshiva high school in Boston aided in the rescue of a man who was drowning in a reservoir. The teens later discovered that the man had a tattoo of a swastika on his hand.
