Hallel-Yaffa Ariel, 13, was stabbed to death as she slept in her bedroom by a Palestinian terrorist. The attacker was shot and killed by responding security guards, which included the girl’s father. Two more Israelis were stabbed in a separate attack in Netanya. Both victims are in stable condition.

Also this week in Israel in the News:

  • A suicide bombing at Turkey’s main airport has killed at least 41 with more than 200 injured. Early indications point to ISIS as being behind the attack.
  • The terrorist attack came as Israel and Turkey were beginning to normalize diplomatic ties. Relations had been strained between the two countries since nine Turks were killed aboard a ship trying to breach the Israeli blockade of the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.
  • In order to protect its citizens from terror attacks, the Israeli government has placed a temporary ban on Christians and Jews from visiting the Temple Mount during the remainder of Ramadan.
  • The Fellowship–sponsored mentoring program, Yedidut Zahala, offers assistance for at-risk youth who are serving in the Israel Defense Forces. In its 22 years, Yedidut Zahala has helped more than 7,000 Israeli youth.

This week’s Israel in the News Perspective features The Fellowship‘s founder and President Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein on the close bond between Israel and America.
