Tensions Flare on Gaza Border after Hamas Military Drill

Earlier this week, the terrorist group Hamas staged a large-scale military drill in Gaza that included detonating bombs and firing machine guns. The exercise triggered Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system, which sent rockets into the night sky.

Also this week in Israel in the News:

  • French authorities in Paris arrested two men for the killing of an 85-year-old Holocaust survivor, Mireille Knoll, in what police are calling an anti-Semitic murder.
  • Christian worshipers attended Palm Sunday processions in the West Bank and Jerusalem last weekend on the day that marks the start of Holy Week.
  • The U.S. Department of Justice announced this week that a federal grand jury has indicted nine Iranians for hacking university computer systems to steal scientific research. At least 320 universities in 22 countries were hacked.
  • Nikki Haley, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, denounced the recent passage of five anti-Israel resolutions last weekend by the U.N. Human Rights Council. In the wake of these resolutions, Haley said the U.S. is evaluating its membership on the council.
