Israel Mourns the Death of First Lady Nechama Rivlin

Israel mourned the passing of her First Lady, Nechama Rivlin, on Tuesday. Mrs. Rivlin died of a pulmonary illness she has battled for many years. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered his condolences, saying, “She fought heroically for her life.”

Also this week in Israel in the News:

  • The Wall Street Journal has reported that the Gaza-based terror groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad have replenished their arsenal supply that had been depleted in the 2014 Israel-Gaza war.
  • After U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo delivered a sobering assessment on the Trump administration’s Middle East Peace Plan to Israeli leaders, President Trump maintained there’s a “good chance” a peace plan can be done.
  • S. National Security Adviser John Bolton told reporters this week that the U.S.’s quick military response in the Middle East has helped to deter “threats from Iran.”
  • Israeli officials are working to destroy underground tunnels dug by the Iranian-backed fighters of Hezbollah. At least six terror tunnels had been dug almost a mile from Lebanon into Israel.
