Israel Launches Operation to Detect Hezbollah Terror Tunnels

Israel has launched a new defensive campaign dubbed Operation Northern Shield to detect terror tunnels built by Hezbollah along the Israeli-Lebanon border. On Tuesday, the IDF already uncovered an active tunnel stretching into Israeli territory.
- Meanwhile, Iran test-fired a medium-range ballistic missile last weekend that is capable of hitting the entire Middle East and parts of Europe. U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the test violates resolutions passed by the U.N. Security Council.
- The U.S. this week mourned the passing of George Herbert Walker Bush, the 41st President and a strong ally of Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered his condolences, calling the former president, “a great American patriot.”
- At the annual Israeli-American Conference last week, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence reiterated America’s long-standing alliance with the Jewish state.
- As Jews around the world celebrate Hanukkah this week, U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman reminded the U.N. in a tweet that the holiday celebrates the fact that “Jerusalem is the ancient and modern capital of Israel.”
