Iran Missile Attack into Israel Prompts Full-Scale Assault

Early Thursday morning, Iran launched 20 rockets into Israel from its military bases in Syria. Israel responded with its greatest show of force in Syria since the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Israeli fighter jets destroyed what they described as a significant amount of Iran’s military infrastructure.

  • The White House responded to the Israeli airstrikes, with Press Secretary Sarah Sanders saying, “Israel absolutely has a sovereign right to defend itself.”
  • Two days prior to Iran launching missiles into Israel, President Trump pulled the U.S. out of the Iran nuclear deal, saying, “it’s a decayed deal that gave too much to Iran.”
  • After a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had no reason to believe that Russia will attempt to limit Israel’s military operations in the region.
  • In Jerusalem, the first signs directing people to the U.S. Embassy are being installed in anticipation of the embassy move from Tel Aviv on May 14.

This week’s Israel in the News Perspective features The Fellowship‘s Global Executive Vice President Yael Eckstein on the Iran Nuclear Deal.
