Ceasefire Called After Hundreds of Rockets Fired at Israel

Stand for Israel  |  November 14, 2019

On Thursday morning, Egypt brokered a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Islamic Jihad, the Palestinian terror group responsible for firing hundreds of rockets at Israel from Gaza since Tuesday. Tensions remain high even after the ceasefire was declared as sporadic rocket fire continued.

  • The latest barrage of rocket attacks from Gaza came after an Israeli air strike killed Bahaa Abu-el-Atta, the leader of the Iranian-backed Islamic Jihad. Israelis believed Abu el-Atta had ordered previous attacks on Israel and was planning a large-scale attack.
  • Meanwhile, after meeting with his security chiefs, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed Israel “will carry out all the necessary actions” to defend its people.
  • While the majority of rockets fired into Israel were intercepted by the Iron Dome system, one rocket hit a home for the elderly, wounding a 70-year-old woman, who was one of dozens injured during the attacks.
  • In response to the recent attacks, The Fellowship has been on the ground, distributing hundreds of protective vests to volunteer first-responders, supplying mobile bomb shelters, and providing emergency assistance to those impacted by the attacks.

This week’s Israel in the News Perspective features The Fellowship’s President and CEO Yael Eckstein as she speaks from a command center in Israel on providing security to Jews in Israel and around the world during this time of crisis.
