At Least 35 Dead in New Year's Terror Attack in Istanbul

Terror struck the Middle East as the New Year was being celebrated, this time in Turkey. The Times of Israel reports that a gunman dressed as Santa Claus opened fire on an Istanbul club, killing at least 35 and wounding more than 40:

At least 35 people were killed Saturday in an armed attack on an Istanbul nightclub where locals were celebrating the New Year, Istanbul’s governor said.

Vasip Sahin described the rampage as a “terror attack.”

“Unfortunately, at least 35 of our citizens lost their lives. One was a police officer,” Sahin told reporters at the scene of the attack, the Reina nightclub in Istanbul’s Ortakoy district by the Bosphorus on the city’s European shore.
