The festive Jewish holiday of Purim – which celebrates the biblical story of Esther – begins this Saturday at sundown. While Purim recalls the deliverance of God's people nearly 2,400 years ago, it also sends the message that Jews and Christians alike must still commit to bravely defending His people in the face of hatred.

Standing Up to Anti-Semitism

It happened again. Last Monday, at least ten Jewish Community Centers (JCC) around the U.S. received bomb threats. In 2017 alone, 54 Jewish community centers in 27 states and one Canadian province have received dozens of bomb threats. Thank God, all have been false alarms.

Two recent acts of vandalism to houses and worship – one to a church in Israel, one to a synagogue in Chicago – were indeed troubling. But the interfaith services that arose in the wake of such despicable acts inspired me, reminding me that unity among people of faith is the antidote to anti-Semitism and other forms of hatred.

We Remember Their Dignity and Sacrifice

On International Holocaust Remembrance Day – observed on January 27 – let us remember the millions of innocents murdered by the Nazis, the many Christians who put their lives on the line so that Jewish people might live, and those who survived but still struggle with bitter memories and crippling poverty.
