The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews gives additional grant of $2.5 million for Passover aid to Jewish communities in Ukraine, bringing total of Ukraine assistance to $6.5 million

April 13, 2022

JERUSALEM — Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (The Fellowship) has been assisting needy Jewish populations in the country by supplying essentials like food, medication, and shelter, in addition to evacuating refugees to border crossings and funding aliyah (immigration to Israel).

With Passover approaching, The Fellowship is providing an additional assistance package that includes kosher food and other supplies for Passover. The assistance package will bring the total of The Fellowship’s emergency support to Jewish communities in Ukraine since the beginning of the war to $6.5 million.

In partnership with Chabad, The Fellowship will also be distributing ten tons of matzah for Passover to the Jewish community in Odesa. This delivery was planned even before the war broke out, but distribution was delayed due to the conflict. After The Fellowship’s and Chabad’s many efforts, the matzah delivery was released from the port, and distribution to the Jewish community has begun.

The Fellowship is also bringing thousands of Jewish refugees from Ukraine on aliyah to Israel through neighboring countries, in partnership with Israel’s Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, the Jewish Agency, and The Fellowship’s supporters from around the world. To date, 2,200 have arrived in Israel as new olim (immigrants) since the beginning of the war. In addition, The Fellowship is sending a weekly flight to Ukraine with emergency humanitarian aid including food, heating supplies, hygiene products, and medication. “The Fellowship’s 30 years of working with Jews in need throughout the former Soviet Union has culminated in this moment,” said Fellowship President and CEO Yael Eckstein. “This community is more vulnerable than it has been since World War II. The Fellowship has been there providing for their basic needs every day, and now this Passover aid will help them celebrate the holiday with dignity and remind them that even during hardship and war there is hope for a better future.”
