Faces of The Fellowship: Sergey

Sergey was in first grade when he arrived at Fellowship-supported Tikva Children’s Home, which cares for homeless, abandoned, and abused Jewish children in Ukraine and neighboring regions of the former Soviet Union.

He stayed there through graduation, and then entered Tikva Jewish University, where he earned a master’s degree in finance. Sergey didn’t just gain an education at university, he also met the woman who would become his wife, Alena, who earned a degree in English language and literature.

After graduating, they got married, and in the following years had two children. Sergey is now 24 and owns a café in Odessa. His family lives according to Jewish tradition and is very involved with their local Jewish community.

It is sobering to think what might have become of Sergey if he hadn’t had the supportive foundation provided by the Fellowship-supported children’s home. He is grateful that Tikva put him on a better path, which enabled him to create a stable, loving home for his own children.
